Under Kakadu Skies is out now!

Today I’m delighted to finally say that my newest novel, Under Kakadu Skies, is officially released.

This book has taken me to one of my favourite places in Australia and into a landscape that seems almost made for storytelling.

There are few places quite like Kakadu.

Its wetlands stretch towards distant escarpments beneath an enormous sky. Magpie geese rise in their thousands. Crocodiles slide almost invisibly through dark water. Brumbies roam and the turning seasons completely transform the country.

Whenever I think of Kakadu, I have the strange sense of looking backwards through time.

It makes me wonder whether this is something like the Australia our distant ancestors would  have known: vast, wild and ruled not by people, but by weather, water and wildlife.

It is the perfect setting for Under Kakadu Skies.

Some secrets surface. Others lie in wait …

Wildlife biologist Jo Reid arrives in Kakadu after betrayal shatters the life she thought she knew.

She intends to lose herself in work and the wild country of the Top End. What she doesn’t expect is Kai Walker, a ranger who belongs to this landscape — a man carrying secrets and responsibilities of his own.

As Jo begins her fieldwork, troubling discoveries suggest someone is exploiting Kakadu’s wildlife. What begins as suspicion soon becomes something far more dangerous, drawing Jo and Kai into a fight that will test their courage, their trust in one another and ultimately their chances of making it home alive.

Along the way there are crocodiles, brumbies, an orphaned foal named Ghost, some truly spectacular country — and a love story.

Because, however wild the setting and however high the stakes, my stories always come back to people finding connection, hope and a place to belong.

A slightly different release this time

Many readers found my earlier books in stores such as BIG W when they were published by Penguin.

Under Kakadu Skies is different.

It is published by Pilyara Press, the independent press I now publish through, so you won’t necessarily see piles of copies in the big department stores.

But the book is widely available online and can be ordered by booksellers and libraries.

I’ve already been incredibly touched by the response from my advance readers, with some wonderful reviews and five-star ratings appearing before publication. My heartfelt thanks go to everyone who joined my Early Readers group, downloaded the book and took the time to share their thoughts.

But more than that, it is a lovely thing to know that a story which existed privately in my head for so long has finally found its readers.

So today I’m raising an imaginary glass to Jo, Kai, Ghost — and to the extraordinary country beneath those immense Kakadu skies.
